About california progress, inc.

California, Missouri, is the county seat of Moniteau County and has a population of approximately 4300. It lies right on Highway 50, about 25 minutes west of Jefferson City. Three major companies employ many of our area people: Arkansas Valley Feather Company, Burgers' Smokehouse, and Cargill Turkey Productions. We have a first-rate school system and love our California Pintos!

California Progress, Inc. (CPI) was initially formed in 1989 after being one of 10 communities selected by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) as a pilot program called "Main Street: Revitalizing Downtown." In the past 27 years, CPI has renovated several very old, decrepit buildings. Today they house the Moniteau County Library, the Finke Theatre, and the Moniteau County Historical Society/Museum. CPI organized our city's Enterprise Zone and several park areas. Currently through the DED Neighborhood Assistance Program, we are able to offer interest-free loans to businesses for such things as facade renovation on buildings, sidewalk work, and awning replacement.

in 2012, we once again hooked up with the Main Street program, which is now called Missouri Main Street Connection. Through MMSC, we formed our "Old Town District," wherein lies most of the above-mentioned completed projects, along with our historic county courthouse, three banks, many businesses, and residential buildings. We have four very active Old Town committees that are constantly planning and carrying out activities and events, such as our annual Spring and Fall Open Houses, planning fundraisers, and hosting seminars of various topics for business owners and citizens.
