The Drexel Community Betterment Corporation is the operating entity for Drexel Main Street. Drexel is a railroad town, originally founded on the Kansas City Southern line to New Orleans in 1890 as a water stop. The railroad is still an important part of our community, featuring as operating grain elevator on one end of the ten-square-block Main Street district and our K-12 school on the other. Our 1890s Main Street features several functioning original buildings. Three original buildings that comprised the Drexel Mercantile now house entrepreneur-founded businesses. Drexel features two different biotech companies on Main Street: a hardware store, and family-owned grocery store. One of the original historic bank buildings houses City Hall, and the other is now a locally-owned business. Our revitalization program is focusing on a gazebo in a pocket park for 2016, with sidewalks in 2017, and facades in 2018.
